When you are ten years old and wake to find an angel by your bedside, you need no further proof that God exists. You just know.

I was once asked why I was a Christian.

Here’s why:

From the age of ten, when I woke to find an angel at my bedside, I decided God must exist. It was that simple. I needed no corroborating evidence or scientific proof, I just knew, and that was that.

When I was twenty-six I watched a Songs of Praise programme on which a lively congregation were gathered in worship and song. I realised I too wanted to share their experience.

I turned to my wife and said:

“If only there was a church like that in our town, I would certainly go.”

Several months later some people came to my door. They told me about just such a church that was in our town. It was their church and they invited me to go. I gave it some thought and decided to try it, and see for myself.

There, for the first time in my life, I heard about the gift of salvation. Now, I’ve never been one to turn down a gift. I decided that if it was free then I would have it. Some weeks later while at home I decided to pray and ask for my free gift. It was then I realised that God didn’t simply exist but is undeniably real.

Immediately, I chose to ask Jesus to be Lord of my life and to lead me from that day forward.

From that moment on, my life was never to be the same. There have been ups and downs, of course, but through all these He has always been there to help me through.
